Getting a crew and a material load east past San Dimas is easy enough on Foothill or Arrow — the work starts when the driveway pitches up. Above Foothill and Baseline the streets climb into the San Gabriel foothills, and a lot of those lots are horse property with a barn or two out back off the Marshall Canyon trails. We stage differently up there. Narrow turnarounds, tile that has to be walked off in stacks, and dust control that matters when there are animals downwind.
Down in Old Town around D Street and Bonita, it's a different job entirely. Citrus-era houses with steep pitches and original clay tile — we salvage and re-lay what we can rather than swapping the whole field, because matching hundred-year-old tile is mostly luck. The 1970s-through-90s tract stretches are more predictable: concrete tile, tired underlayment, and leaks that show up at the valleys. Can you match the tile on an older Old Town house?
Sometimes. On early-1900s clay we usually pull and reuse the good field tile, replace the underlayment underneath, and source blend tile for breakage. We'll tell you honestly if a clean match isn't realistic.
